Danny Califf's days at Aalborg BK seem to be numbered as his current contract expired on June 30th, and the Californian is not happy with the extension he has been offered, putting negotiations nearly at a halt.

"There really isn't any," the AaB captain told American Soccer Daily. "We're just kind of cruising along and there are some options, but at this point there is nothing."

Comments made about the negotiations have stirred up emotions in the Danish media and among the fans, but while Califf is sorry for the negative attention it has drawn to himself and the club, he does not regret having made the comments.

"I haven't gone to seek out the press or anything like that," he said. "I don't think Lynge (Jacobsen, Aalborg general manager) is a bad guy and I don't think anything bad about the club, but if somebody asks me a question, I'm going to answer it and I'm going to tell the truth."

"It is what it is. It's not something I can control at this point. It's getting made out a lot in the media, but I don't think that it's affecting the team. A lot is being made out of something that's not so big."

While Aalborg seems to be a nearly finished chapter in his career, returning to MLS is not an option just yet.

"It's not that I don't want to go back, but I don't feel like I have accomplished what I want to accomplish," stated Califf. "I'm enjoying playing in Europe and I'm enjoying playing in Denmark, so at this point, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense for me to go back."

"There are some options on the table within Denmark and there are a few options on the table in Germany, so we'll probably make a decision in the next few days," he revealed. "Then at least for me, I can put it behind me and concentrate on trying to win the championship."

AaB are five points clear at the top with nine games left to play, so Califf has a good chance of leaving Aalborg in style. The SAS leaders return to the title chase by visiting Esbjerg on Monday.
