The match-up with Vitória Setúbal was the first quarterfinal leg, and Adu's goal saved Benfica from the setback of losing the opener at home.

The visitors were on the scoreboard early when Matheus scored unassisted, beating Benfica defender Luisão to a rebound to poke past Quim for 1-0 in the 12th minute.

Benfica striker Gonzalo Bergessio had chances in the 15th and the 20th minutes to bring his team back even, but both shots went over the target.

Adu was part of a double substitution in the 71st minute for the home side, with Benfica still trailing 1-0.

Quim came up huge for Benfica when he stopped a Leandro shot in the 74th minute, and teammate Edihno gave and equal scare when his shot clanged off the crossbar in the 85th.

With Setúbal seconds away from stealing the win, Adu ran onto a long ball redirected from midfield to the top left side of the penalty area. Fighting for position with a defender, Adu one-timed past Eduardo from 18 yards out for the tying goal.

Benfica travel to Setúbal for the return leg on Halloween.
