HSV Keeping Benny Grip Tight

The agent for US starlet Benny Feilhaber says Hamburg SV are making it very difficult for the growing number of interested teams to seal a 2006/07 loan move for the midfielder.

Clubs from all over the continent have made a pile of enquiries of one nature or another, but the only team never to be relegated from the Bundesliga are being quite strict in negotiations.

"In my last conversation with them, it is clear that they don't really want to sell Benny," Henner Janzen revealed to American Soccer Daily. "They may loan him out for this season, but then want to give him a new contract from 2008."

"The problem is they want the (loan) club to take the salary, pay a loan fee and have no possibility to buy. I have a great many teams calling, but when you mention the conditions it is different. Some even want to buy him, but HSV don't want to do that."

Already assured by Hamburg director Dietmar Beiersdorfer - a noted Feilhaber fan - that he will join Huub Stevens' first team camp after a well-earned double US duty breather, the player and his representative are taking a wait-and-see approach before looking into loan moves.

"There's no question he'll be training with the first team," said Janzen. "But I'm afraid when it comes to the weekend, he'll be dropped to the Regionalliga side."

"When Benny joins the team, after he is done with his holiday, we will sit down with them and tell them he doesn't want to play in the second team this season."

"We can watch the first two, three games of the season and see what happens. If necessary, I will take the entire transfer window. Of course, by then, HSV may have made the (loan) conditions easier."
