Glasgow Rangers winger DaMarcus Beasley has had successful surgery to repair the knee ligament damage he suffered in the Ibrox side's 3-2 defeat at Stuttgart during the Champions League group stages back in late November.

"He is probably done for the season," Rangers press officer Stephen Kerr told American Soccer Daily on Saturday. "He is in America recuperating right now. He has at least a three or four month layoff ahead of him."

The Fort Wayne, Indiana native had established himself as a fixture in manager Walter Smith's side during his first season in Scotland before injuring his right knee. While lunging for a loose ball in front of goal, he was cut down by VfB Stuttgart goalkeeper Raphael Schafer, who beat the American in the foot race.

Beasley's absence could also mean that Reading winger native Bobby Convey, who has just come back from a long term knee injury himself, will get the nod when the United States Men's National Team starts World Cup qualifying later this year.
