Aalborg BK are through to the second round of the UEFA Cup qualification after a 2-1 home win against Belgian side KAA Gent, the first meeting ending 1-1.
AaB came from behind with a goal on either side of the half, including the equalizer from Danny Califf in the 31st minute.
The California man wore the captain's armband for the full 90 minutes in AaB's central defense and made his mark on the game in the first half.
In spite of several decent chances for Aalborg, it was Adekammi Olufade who finished off a Belgian counter attack to bring the visitors up 1-0 after 27 minutes.
Only four minutes later, however, Califf rose above everyone else to put his head to a free kick from Martin Pedersen for the equalizer.
A 1-1 result would have led to extra time and possibly penalties but with 11 minutes to go, a cross from Thomas Enevoldsen found the head of newly signed Swedish midfielder Andreas Johansson who scored the deciding goal. |
