Greg Berhalter went the distance in the Lions defense, while Josh Wolff started up front to play 54 minutes. Young defender Steve Purdy did not dress for 1860.

Aachen wasted little time building a lead as good work from Emmanuel Krontiris set up Todor Kolev for a 10th minute opener.

The former Bulgaria youth international turned provider in the 40th minute, sending Marius Ebbers in clean for the 2-0.

The visitors, and Mustafa Kučuković in particular, were growing more frustrated by the minute until eight minutes were left on the clock as 1860 skipper Danny Schwarz buried a 20-meter free kick to cut the deficit.

Kučuković got his reward for a hard day two minutes later to equalize and Fabian Johnson completed the stirring fightback by firing home from a Lars Bender set-up in the 88th minute.

Sixth place 1860 will get back to the promotion chase with a visit from Augsburg on February 3rd.
