▪ MLS Weekend Review

Chicago reclaims status as our top dog after taming the Red Bulls, while the Galaxy rockets up to fourth in the latest MLS Power Rankings.

▪ MLS News Briefs - Week 9
▪ Brave New World

#1 Chicago Fire (+1) - The Fire's dismantling of the New York Red Bulls moves them back into the top spot in the rankings. Blanco continues to show why he is the most important player in MLS in his goal-and-three-assist effort on Sunday. Just as important for Chicago, is the continued solid play of Chad Barrett, who has given the Fire a solid second option in the attack.

#2 New England (+3) - The Revs went to Columbus and came back with a win. Even without Taylor Twellman, New England finds themselves in a three-way tie atop the league. The Revs have proven throughout the year that they can get results away from home, which ways heavily in these rankings.

#3 Columbus Crew (-2) - With a hiccup against New England, Columbus falls a couple spots in the standings. The Crew will travel to Chivas USA on the weekend; a perfect chance to get their high powered offense back on track.

#4 Los Angeles Galaxy
(+5) - Look who is now making some noise - the Galaxy have the top offense in MLS led by the top scorer (Landon Donovan) and best passer (David Beckham, who has been on a roll in recent weeks) However, international call-ups could bring the Gals back down to earth.

#5 New York Red Bulls
(-2) - The loss to Chicago stung quite a bit, but with the injuries and card accumulation New York had suffered, it was no surprise they were soundly beaten. Still, New York is tied atop MLS with Chicago and Columbus for least losses in the league. The imminent return of Dave Van den Bergh and Seth Stammler will provide some stability.

#6 Toronto FC (-2) - Toronto continues to be the league's best home side, but cannot produce results on the road. TFC had opportunities to win at RFK Stadium, but some shoddy defending and goalkeeping saw all three points stay in DC.

#7 FC Dallas
(+4) - Two late goals from Dominic Oduro gave the Hoops three much-needed points at home against Real Salt Lake. The major change in Dallas is a new coach, only time will tell what effect that will have.

#8 Kansas City Wizards
(unchanged) - It was a disappointing loss to the Galaxy at the Home Depot Center on Saturday. The Wizards' problem is a sputtering offense. There is clearly talent on that roster, but right now the attack is just not clicking.

#9 Colorado Rapids (-2) - The Rapids continue to show why they are the least predictable team in MLS. After a solid result in the prior week, the Rapids followed that up with a 2-1 loss to Chivas USA. The young combination of Colin Clark and Omar Cummings gives Colorado one of the better young attack duos in MLS - definitely something to watch over the course of the season.

#10 Chivas USA (+2) - The Goats have now won in consecutive weeks for the first time all season. Sure, Sacha Kljestan is having a great season, but perhaps the most interesting plot line is that of Sueno MLS winner Jorge Flores, who scored his second goal of the season for the Goats to move them up to fifth in the Western Conference.

#11 DC United
(+2) - The Capitol Boys may still not be in form, but they earned a much-needed victory over Toronto FC on Saturday. Luciano Emilio's late pounce on a Greg Sutton fumble was enough for DC to earn the win. The schedule ahead won't be easy, though, as they travel north to face #2 New England on Thursday.

#12 Houston Dynamo
(-6) - What has happened to Houston? Considered the favorite to win the Western Conference at the start of the year, Houston fell at San Jose on Thursday to give the Earthquakes only their second win. With international call-ups and competitions, depth will become a real concern for Houston. If the two-time defending champions hope to challenge this year, they will need to make their move now.

#13 San Jose Earthquakes
(+1) - In previous weeks, the Earthquakes had played hard, but were unable to earn a result. Now, San Jose has its second win and is back in the picture in the Western Conference. Another chance at points will occur Saturday when they travel to strugglers Real Salt Lake.

#14 Real Salt Lake
(-4) - What is going on with RSL? Jason Kreis has put together a solid team, but the results are just not there. After earning a lead at Dallas, RSL let in two late goals to drop the points. They will have the opportunity to rebound at home against expansion side San Jose.
