▪ MLS Weekend Review

Seven teams held their places in the new Power Ranking, including #1 DC United, while the Chicago Fire made the week's biggest jump.

Week 24

#1 DC United (unchanged) - DC followed a disappointing 2-2 result against the Goats with a huge 4-2 victory over New England to put them in the driver seat to win the MLS Supporters Shield. Luciano Emilio now has 18 goals, and is on pace to score over 20 goals, a feat accomplished only a handful of times this decade.

#2 Chivas USA (+1) - An impressive comeback against United and then a quality 3-0 victory over New York has the Goats on the cusp of taking the conference lead with three games in hand over Houston. While Maykel Galindo has earned the praise as one of the league's top scorers, Sacha Kljestan has also had a huge season in the midfield. Don't be surprised if Kljestan earns a spot on the MLS Best XI squad.

#3 New England Revolution (-1) - A tough loss to swallow for the Revolution as it is beginning to appear that New England will have to beat United at RFK Stadium to make it to MLS Cup - then again, they did it in 2006.

#4 Houston Dynamo
(Unchanged) - A grind it out 4-3 victory over Real Salt Lake gave Houston a much needed victory, and for the time being, the conference lead. Injuries have hurt Houston over the past two months and will likely cost them the conference title.

#5 FC Dallas (+1) - Denílson’s first goal for Dallas gave them three points to make it a three-team race out west. The problem with the Hoops has and continues to be their defense. They will score goals, but can their defense keep the pace?

#6 New York Red Bulls (Unchanged) - The Red Bulls are a good home team and an awful away team. Unless the Bulls can change their tune, it will once again be one and done in the playoffs.

#7 Chicago Fire (+2) - In perhaps the most important game of the weekend, Chicago knocked off Columbus at Crew Stadium to move into great position for the eighth and final playoff spot. Paolo Wanchope's reaction to the game's lone goal showed how important of a moment it was for the Fire's season.

#8 Kansas City Wizards (-1) - Davy Arnaud and Eddie Johnson make one of the better attacking combinations in the league, but the Wizards need more than just those two to finish any higher than fourth in the Eastern Conference.

#9 Colorado Rapids (-1) - A bad loss to the Galaxy has stunted the momentum Colorado had going into this game. It's great to see the resurgence of Conor Casey, but how long will it last?

#10 Columbus Crew (Unchanged) - A devastating loss to Chicago appears to be the dagger to the Crew's season. The problem for the Crew has been and continues to be consistent scoring at forward - I bet they wish they had Jeff Cunningham right now.

#11 Real Salt Lake (Unchanged) - Although RSL lost to Houston, the Salt Lake boys still have a lot to be optimistic about. The implementation of their newly signed Argentine players has made them a much more competitive team.

#12 Los Angeles Galaxy (Unchanged) - Even with a victory over Colorado, it is not a matter of if, but when Frank Yallop is given his walking papers. It will be a very interesting offseason for the Galaxy, who will miss the playoffs for the second straight season.

#13 Toronto FC (Unchanged) - Another game, another loss for Toronto. I understand that morale is not high for a team that hasn't won since July, but Mo Johnston has to try something new to get the team moving in the right direction to end the season.
