MLSU Power Rankings

by MLS Underground - August 22, 2007

In a week with movement to burn, the Revs climb to the top in place of plummeting FC Dallas, while Colorado and New York make the big jumps.

Week 21

#1 New England Revolution
(+2) - A tough grind it out victory for New England at Arrowhead has the Revolution as the top team in the league. Big conference game this week when they host New York.

#2 DC United (Unchanged) - United showed their muster with a 2-0 victory at Crew Stadium. Fred has really turned it on, but it's Luciano Emilio who is the MVP candidate.

#3 Houston Dynamo
(+1) - Despite a rash of injuries, Houston was able to beat FC Dallas to reclaim the Western Conference lead. Houston needs a healthy Ricardo Clark and Stuart Holden if they are to repeat as MLS champions.

#4 New York Red Bulls (+3) - The Red Bulls were victorious in one of the best games in MLS history over the Los Angeles Galaxy. Jozy Altidore has really come on strong after returning from the Under-20 World Cup. The combination of Juan Pablo Angel and Altidore needs to continue to succeed for New York to go deep in the playoffs.

#5 FC Dallas (-4) - The injury to Juan Toja has been a big blow to Dallas in recent weeks. Once Kenny Cooper and Toja return, Dallas may have the best attack in MLS.

#6 Chivas USA
(Unchanged) - The Goats have had a solid season and continued their winning ways with a victory over Toronto. Chivas has had their success in a different fashion than other clubs: hungry, young players. Preki has to be considered a candidate for MLS Coach of the Year.

#7 Kansas City Wizards
(-2) - The Wizards have slowed down of late and now find themselves a little farther down in the Eastern Conference standings. Eddie Johnson can't do it all, no matter how much confidence Curt Onalfo installs in him.

#8 Chicago Fire (+1) - Since Blanco's arrival, the tide has turned for Chicago. They have gone on a nice run and are creeping up on Columbus for the final playoff spot. Paolo Wanchope was also ablo to get on the score sheet as his partnership with Blanco increases.

#9 Colorado Rapids
(+3) - Jovan Kirovski nearly scored a hat trick in a 3-0 beating of New England. The guy to watch is Colin Clark, who has really played well in recent weeks.

#10 Columbus Crew (-2) - The Crew's lack of experience has shown in recent weeks. If the Crew don't turn it around by Labor Day, they'll likely be sitting at home during the playoffs once again.

#11 Los Angeles Galaxy (-1) - There is no question that David Beckham makes the Galaxy a significantly better team. The problem is the Galaxy may have dug themselves a hole to deep to get out of.

#12 Toronto FC (-1) - Fitness and injuries have made it difficult for Mo Johnston to even field a line-up, never mind win a game.

#13 Real Salt Lake (Unchanged) - The Salt Lake Boys are still a year away from competing. It will be interesting to see how Jason Kreis uses the transfer money from the Freddy Adu sale.
