Wolff Shooting for Lion's Form

With the 2007-08 season edging near, 1860 Munich's American front man Josh Wolff is keeping his focus on health and condition as he aspires to shake free of his oft-injured past to plot a lethal form in front of goal.

The former Kansas City Wizard conjured up some lengthy physiotherapy minutes after injuring his hamstring last season, and found himself unable to spell his way past its persistence.

"(At) the end of the season, I had a hamstring injury that kept me out a month," Wolff told American Soccer Daily, "And then when I tried to come back from it, I re-aggravated it and kept me out the rest of the season."

However, the Munich striker who came out 10 times for his new club, both scoring and assisting twice to help 1860 to an eighth place finish in Germany's second flight, now maintains that the plaguing condition has since tapered off. "It does feel better and I am gaining fitness every day," he added.

"I am still a ways from being fully fit and as strong as I would like, but we still have a month until the first game and will just keep moving forward."

"The most important thing for me this year is to stay on top of any physical issues in order to be fit for as many games as possible. It would be nice to go through a period of time injury-free."

Although injuries have hindered his transition to German soccer, the former South Carolina Gamecocks prodigy has finally found his grounding and settled down amongst the beer-craved Bavarians after a winter move - something that should bode well as he looks to find consistency and ease up front for Munich's sleeping giant.

"It is much better now as far as being settled," Wolff noted. "I am much more familiar with the area, can communicate with people a bit more, and have a better understanding of how this league operates and our club which is most important."

"My family and I have really enjoyed our first six months here. The English Garden is fantastic, we hit up the Beer Gardens on the weekends, and cruise around Munich when we get time. Its also nice to be able to go to some other cities around Europe."

While Wolff has been finding his sea-legs in the 2.Bundesliga waters, a number of faces at the club have come and gone, as is usual around this time of year.

"We lost a few players and we picked up some very quality players in return," he said philosophically. Among the notable new additions is Daniel Bierofka, who joins from last year's Bundesliga Champions VfB Stuttgart to help bolster midfield.

With the season only a month away, the Löwen attacker is already sharpening his claws, netting four goals in the past three pre-season matches.

"Preseason has got off to a good start," Wolff offered up. "I am excited to be playing and scoring some goals, so in that aspect I am pleased."

"I know if I am healthy and fit, I will have a productive year, so I am extremely optimistic and confident that this will happen."
