With his name somewhat surprisingly etched on US coach Thomas Rongen's final roster heading for the 2007 Under-20 World Cup in Canada, FC Dallas midfield savant Dax McCarty took time to reflect on the disappointment of having been excluded from the same team earlier in the year and offered up a glimpse of what to expect as his career kicks up. |

| "Let me say that I am very critical of myself and how I play," McCarty remarked. "It seems like I am never satisfied with how I play no matter how good it may be." "I feel like there are certain aspects of my game that I need to improve on to get to the next level," added the former Ajax Orlando player, "But overall, I think that my play has been centered around really helping the team in whatever way possible, and I think I have done that." With the MLS season in full throttle after rumors of a possible wonder-transfer for Edgar Davids subsided, FC Dallas has found McCarty a reliable presence in the middle of the park, calling on his services for 14 of 15 league clashes. The Frisco, Texas club finds itself atop the Wester Conference with the 2007 campaign at its midpoint. On record with 19 goals, Dallas remains the most potent attacking outfit in the West, something McCarthy is relishing as his game grafts more forward elements and creative spice as time wears on. "I obviously enjoy the attacking side of the game a little better," chimed McCarty, who has four assists to his name on the season, "But I feel that defending is a critical part of being a complete player." "I think that as the season goes on, I will get more comfortable with my role and be able to impose myself in the attacking half more than I have been." What's more, he is getting full support from each of the coaching staffs in his role of choice. "I feel that my best position is as a two-way midfielder that attacks and defends," he offered. "My coaches also feel that I am this type of player, which is something I am definitely happy about." Currently on international duty with the US Under-20 team at the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Canada, McCarty has the next test ahead of him by way of South Korea in Montreal on Saturday. |
